Crowns & Bridges
Today's esthetic dentistry relies on many principles. Modern materials used currently are not only safe and strong, but look like natural teeth too.
Restorations in the past were made of porcelain that adhered to a metal base. These could show a dark shadow at the gum line. And because the metal reflects the light, these restorations made the teeth look flat and unnatural. (Have you known anyone who smiles and shows a dark line at the edge of their gum?)

Today crowns and bridges are made with beautiful, tooth colored materials, so they are very strong, and also very esthetic at the same time.
All porcelain, tooth colored crowns function just like natural teeth. Crowns act to strengthen the tooth and helps to protect it from breaking.
Bridges are used to fill in gaps from missing teeth. The bridge is one option to replace one or more missing teeth, by anchoring on at least one adjacent tooth on each side of the missing tooth.
